Top Five June Thematic Units for Lower Elementary Students

Are you looking for the top June thematic units to use in your classroom?  Check this list to explore some wonderful topics for the month of June.   

For each June thematic unit, we will first, begin with the topic. Second, a literature list that relates to the topic choice.  And finally, centers and activities that can be developed to use throughout the themed unit. 

1. Flag Day Thematic Unit

June 14th is Flag Day in America, so many American flags are proudly displayed every day. There are many books to explain the importance of this day and what the symbol of a flag means for a country.

2. Father’s Day Thematic Unit

Father’s Day is a celebration to honor fathers and fatherhood.  It is celebrated in the United States on the third Sunday in June.  There is an abundance of literature and activities to do to honor these special people in our lives.

3. Oceans Thematic Unit

The ocean is a great unit of study in the month of June.  It is the home to nearly 95% of all life on our planet.  The list of books and literature is endless on this topic and there are several wonderful books for children to learn the importance of taking care of our oceans.
